Vagueness
- Terms are vague when their meanings are unclear.
- Often used to avoid risk taking in argumentation.
- At a January 11, 2005 Forum, President Bush stated "African American males
die sooner than other males do, which means the system is inherently unfair
to a certain group of people. And that needs to be fixed." (1)
Well, which is it?
- It's unfair to blacks who die before they can reach the
age when they can collect benefits from Social Security?
- It's unfair to whites who have to wait longer to collect
survivor benefits than for black survivors to collect Social
Security Survivor Benefits?
- It's unfair to whites because blacks are poorer and pay
into Social Security much less than they eventually collect?
Essentially, Bush's plan for Social Security would clearly benefit those who
actually have money available to invest in the first place regardless of fund
matching.
